Collection Systems Certification

The Voluntary Certification Program for Wastewater Collection Systems Operators has been reviewed and approved by the Association of Boards of Certification (ABC).  The program will be administered by the AWEA Voluntary Certification Program Committee (VCPC).

The Voluntary Certification Program for Wastewater Collection Systems Operators is an AWEA sponsored; tiered; professional certification program.  A Wastewater Collection Systems Operator prepares for and takes the appropriate level exam, beginning with the "Class 1" level and is awarded that certification upon successful completion of the exam (a score of 70 or above) along with other requirements listed below.   The individual may continue with the process, gaining practical experience and taking exams until the desired certification level is achieved, "Class 4" being the highest possible

 Once an individual is certified as a Wastewater Collection Systems Operator, they must obtain twenty four (24) hours of continuing approved training every two (2) years to maintain their certification status along with renewing their certification through the Voluntary Certification Program Committee. A fee of forty ($40.00) will be charged for recertification.

 Applicants must meet the following criteria to sit for the Class 1 exam:

  •  Must be employedbyany Arkansas City,district, or other political subdivision or by any Arkansas company, corporation, utility, person or group of persons engaged in the collection of wastewater for treatment, operating or maintaining facilities, and devices installed or constructed for the purpose of collecting wastewater. This shall include engineering firms, i.e. engineers, involved in the design or installation of collection systems. (a letter from your employer, verifying such, must accompany the application)
  •  Must possessatleasta high school diploma, GED, or equivalent education
  •  Must have at least 40 hours of approved training
  •  All applicants for initial certification and recertification must sign and agree to the Collection Systems Operator “Code of Conduct
  •  Applicant must pass the Class “1” Certification Exam with a score of 70 percent or better in order to receive a Class I Certificate. There is an Exam Fee of $50.00.
